Petrified wood (from the Greek root petro meaning “rock” or “stone”; literally “wood turned into stone”) is the name given to a special type of fossilized remains of terrestrial vegetation. It is the result of a tree or tree-like plants having completely transitioned to stone by the process of permineralization.
A meteorite is a solid piece of debris, from such sources as asteroids or comets, that originates in outer space and survives its impact with the Earth’s surface. It is called a meteoroid before its impact. A meteorite’s size can range from small to extremely large.
Anthropologists believe that the use of tools was an important step in the evolution of mankind. Humans evolved an opposable thumb, useful in holding tools, and increased dramatically in intelligence, which aided in the use of tools.
An artifact or artefact (from Latin phrase arte factum, from ars skill + facere to make) is something made or given shape by man, such as a tool or a work of art, especially an object of archaeological interest.
